Disc golf's newest manufacturer, Vibram®, is continuing it's foray into the disc market with it's newest putter, the Ridge. Following in the footsteps of it's predecessors, the Link and the Summit, the Ridge is made with a flexible and grippy rubber-like material. It is a traditional flat-top style disc with a tall profile, rounded leading edge and a beaded bottom. As is customary with all Vibram discs, it has the yellow "Vibram" logo molded into the center of the disc

. The new Ridge comes in both firm and soft versions. These discs are currently being field tested, and QuadCityDiscGolf.com is fortunate to be a part of the testing group. On first impression, the disc has a good look to it. The version we tested was the firm model, and came in an appealing gray marble color. The Ridge has a very grippy feel to it, and this held up when tested in cold, wet conditions. With the flat top and beaded edge it fit nicely into the hand, and was easy to grip with both a power grip as well as a fan grip for more controlled approach shots.
. We tested the Ridge putter as both a putter and an approach disc. When putting, the Ridge holds a nice flat line with no fade at distances of up to twenty-five to thirty feet. Even with the firmer plastic little to no cut-thru's were noticed and the disc seemed to stick to the chains nicely. The Ridge appeared to have a very consistent and predictable flight path to the basket. When tested as an approach disc, the Ridge performed very well. Unlike the Summit which fades to the right, the Ridge seemed to hold a very nice straight line for the first 95% of it's flight, with just a slight yet predictable fade to the left at the end. This line was very repeatable and predictable. The Ridge seemed to hold the same line on both shorter approach shots as well as when thrown with 80 to 90% power. Again, very predictable and repeatable flights on all shots regardless of power. The Ridge didn't seem to have quite as much glide as a comparable weighted Wizard or Omega SS, but it's distance was very consistent on repeated throws, so the very slight difference in glide was easily overcome.
. We also tested the new Ridge for durability. We tested it by banging it off the baskets and bouncing it off several trees to see if the disc was beat up or if this abuse changed the discs performance at all. Gladly we can say that the Ridge putter held up well to our abuse. Very few marks were even left on the disc after our testing, and the disc maintained it's flight integrity throughout the process. In our opinions, Vibram has come up with what should prove to be a valuable disc to be added to our disc golf bags!
